Supporters say raid on tax evader may turn violent

Ed Brown said, “If Mexico came up on my land and tried to take my land, would I not fight?” Brown said. “The United States is the same exact thing as Mexico in this state. It’s a fact of law.”

Rick Stanley, a Denver-based Web radio host and a militia leader, urged listeners to join Brown at his home.

“We are continuing to ask patriots to surround Ed Brown’s property and life with a ring of armed Americans with firearms and video cameras to protect a fellow American. . . . This is the line in the sand. This is the flashpoint. This is the time of raised pitchforks.”

The usual Christian response to anyone resisting lawful tyranny is to mediate surrender. "Gene Chapman, a Texas theologian running for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination in 2008, has offered to negotiate a settlement between Brown and the White House." Apparently Brown not demoralized, and Bush not repentant, "Neither Brown nor the White House has accepted, he said."

Whereas Waco was an ambush on a messianic congregation living within a busy community, Brown has put some distance between himself and the neighbors. "Ed Brown said he has a stock of food and supplies. He also said his home can run on wind and solar generators if authorities cut his electric line."

"Brown told the newspaper he had 18 months of food stored in his basement and a stockpile of weapons and ammunition."

Arguably, the confrontation should have begun when he was ordered to surrender the firearms. The lesson Waco taught anyone who fights government troops was: Failing to completely crush your enemy will cost you your own life. When forced into a fight, pursue them to their bunkers and never resort to a defensive stronghold.
