More Unsubstantiated Rumors of Mutiny in Iraq

May 17, 2007 07:13

Russian intelligence is leaking that troops from the 10th Mountain Division were refusing to fight. Aggravating factors were "recent orders extending the tours of their forces in their war zone." In Vietnam this was called combat refusal.

Partly because the mutiny communicates by internet, the DOD has banned blogers.

Russian photojournalist Dmitry Chebotayev, who was killed while patrolling with an American unit, documented "the growing disillusionment with the war by ordinary American Soldiers."

This follows a previous report of mutiny in Anbar on December 24, 2006 to which Secretary of Defense Robert Gates visited Baghdad, and "to rectify the mistakes that were made by his predecessor Rumsfeld."

Bothe reports are consistent with the general analysis by William Lind, that Iraq will become America's Waterloo.
